Commissioning a Work of Art...Ask Wendy to create your desired painting of a landscape, home, cottage, garden, floral, still life scene, or pet portrait.

A commissioned work of art is for and about the buyer but created in a relationship that has the same goal and outcome.  For the buyer, there is something in his or her life that is so meaningful or desirable, that a painting will capture the essence of that emotion; something to be enjoyed and shared with others.

The commissioning of a painting places the artist and the purchaser in a relationship with a focus on the image to be created. To this end, the steps to a successful commission are:

  1. View the artist’s work on her gallery website. Where possible, see her work in person. Are there specific paintings that reflect your ideas of what you want? If so, let Wendy know.

  2. Consider the size and location you have in mind for the intended piece. This is very important. Is the paining to be done on canvas or directly on a location wall or fixture?

  3. Contact the artist for a discussion, a work plan and an estimate.

  4. Select the person who will be approving the commission.  If a group is being represented, one or maximum two members of the group may be selected to work with the artist.

  5. Agree on a timeline and fee for the piece. The details and expenses (e.g. any travel to a location) will be outlined in a signed agreement which will include a non-refundable deposit of 30% of the final quoted price.

  6. You and Wendy will be in contact prior to the deadline for the completed work. Keeping in mind that Wendy works direct, there may or may not be an opportunity to view the work in progress.

  7. Keep in mind that oil paintings will dry on the surface within a few weeks before they can be safely, but carefully moved and hung.

  8. Enjoy the art that you helped to create!
